It's the same old modus operandi: the person on the other end will not give you his name, but he will either ask you for yours and with what congergation your associate, and/or ask you to put your question in writing. The intent here is not to provide a good faith response, but to obtain your identity and to alert the elders in your congregation to meet with you.

How many here have actually received a response from the WTS, either by phone or letter, regarding the 607/587 B.C.E. discrepancy?
by Crisis of Conscience ini recently called the service department about this.
first off, what i read in another post is correct.
the person you talk with will not give you their name.. i asked the question and the brother responds by saying that yes, they get that question all the time.. then he proceeds to tell me that i need to write in to the society with my question and they will give me plenty of information to back up their standing on it.. i told him that i searched the wl cdrom and found nothing, not even under questions from readers.

Telling it like it is to the householder ....
by wannabefree ini'd like to share a scripture with you householder, if you have a copy of the bible perhaps you can follow along in yours, by the way, did you know that the bible is the best selling book of all time ... over 6 billion copies.
how fortunate it is for you that i am here today, because something you probably didn't now is that only the governing body of jehovah's witnesses can properly understand the bible?
(sometimes just two-thirds of them).

Problems with Soccer (Football) from an American Standpoint
by RubaDub inso as not to hijack another thread, just a few comments on why we (americans) find that soccer is generally a boring game to watch.. 1. lack of scoring: american football adjusts the rules periodically so that each team averages around 3 touchdowns per game.
basketball added the three-point line to encourage more scoring.
even traditional baseball has tweaked the rules to encourage more scoring.

To the American, soccer is a great game to play, but low scoring and slow moving to watch, something like hockey played in hip boots. One gets the feeling in a high-stakes match that any 0-2 deficit is well-night insurmountable, although ther are exciting exceptions, as we've seen

Do JW's now avoid "live" persons they meet in the field?
by donny inlately, i have been encountering several jw's who are out placing flyers inviting folks to the upcoming district conventions.
i am usually out for my 10:00 - 11:00 am lunch stroll and when i walk the streets of nearby residential areas, i have been seeing several jw's out in service (i counted 12 yesterday - 8 women and 4 men).
in 4 instances over the past 9 days, i have placed myself in a situation (such as sitting on a park bench that is along the sidewalk they are on or stopping my stroll before they get to me) and each time they just smile and say hello and continue on their path.

It isn't that the dubs aren't still pressured to do it; it's simply that more and more of them avoid doing it....

The New Jeremiah Book
by zoiks inmy mother-in-law just got back from her convention and gave us the new releases, this jeremiah book included.
just a quick scan of it has revealed a few gems.. first of all, there is a chapter entitled, "you can benefit from the new covenant" (italics theirs).
i am not a christian, but i understand the beef that many will have with this entire chapter.

Even in the case of a book devoted to one Hebrew prophet they're spinning the message in the direction of social engineering, behavior manipulation, not prophetic interpretation; nobody there has the intellectual hardware to pick up where Freddie left off.

WT September 15, 2010 - The Faithful and NOT SO Discrete Slave
by Designer Stubble inthe wt of september 15, 2010 (kool-aid version) has two articles on unity.
one is titled: unity identifies true worship and the other christian unity glorifies god.
of course it is more uniformity, not true unity.

How long did the Watchtower Society's campaign against aluminium last?
by slimboyfat ini came across a discussion of the golden age magazine's anti-aluminum stance in a book on the history of reaction to government policy on fluoride:.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/fluoride-wars-americas-political-melodrama/dp/0470448334/ref=sr_1_64?ie=utf8&s=books&qid=1276764067&sr=1-64.
use the "search inside" feature to find the discussion of the golden age on pages 131 and 132.. among other things it says: "unbelievably, the golden age published over 130 articles railing against aluminium cookware between 1925 and 1969".. did the society continue to publish articles against aluminum as late as 1969?

I believe the advice to favor stainless steel over aluminum cookware is sound, whatever the source
